A Fulton County election official on Thursday appealed a court ruling that would require her to certify election results without a delay.
Fulton County Superior Judge Robert McBurney ruled last week that concerns over fraudulent votes or a systemic issue are not valid reasons to decline or delay certification of the results. Election officials should notify the appropriate authorities instead.
Fulton County election board member Julie Adams, who voted not to certify the county’s primary results this spring, is arguing that her role in certifying the election results is discretionary and not mandatory.
Adams has also claimed she could not “fulfill her oath of office” in the primaries because other county officials did not provide the election documents she requested ahead of the certification deadline, according to The Hill.
Counties are required to certify the election results by Nov. 12, and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has to certify the statewide results by Nov. 22. […]
