Closing Time Hits as ICE Moves on Haitians Losing Temporary Status

The party is over. After years of endless extensions that turned a temporary lifeline into a backdoor amnesty, more than 300,000 Haitians in the United States are about to lose their work permits and protection from deportation. And according to internal plans obtained by CBS News, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is preparing to act.

Sources inside the agency say operations could begin as early as this week. The focus includes cities like Springfield, Ohio, where large Haitian communities settled after the Biden years. Deportation flights to crisis-racked Haiti are already being lined up.

The Supreme Court cleared the legal path last month when it sided with the Trump administration and ruled that judges have no authority to second-guess Temporary Protected Status decisions. The binding mandate is set to drop imminently.

DHS put it bluntly in a statement: “What we would say now is it’s closing time which means you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. The good news is it’s not too late to get a $2,600 check and a free flight home.”

That is not cruelty. That is reality. Temporary Protected Status was created by Congress in 1990 for short-term emergencies. Haiti’s designation dates to the 2010 earthquake. Sixteen years later, most of those still holding the status arrived under the Biden administration—many illegally across the southern border or through the now-terminated parole programs that treated American sovereignty like an open invitation.

The left and its media allies will scream about “racial animus” and paint every removal as heartless. A district judge even tried that line earlier this year. The Supreme Court rejected it. Federal law bars courts from second-guessing these determinations, and the majority found no overt racial motivation in the administration’s actions.

Good. A nation’s first duty is to its own citizens and the rule of law, not to endless accommodation of foreign nationals whose home country remains chaotic.

Haiti is a mess. Gangs control large swaths of the capital. The State Department warns Americans not to travel there under any circumstances. That does not obligate the United States to absorb hundreds of thousands of people indefinitely. Stephen Miller put it plainly after the Court ruling: Haiti is their country. It would be crazy to pretend otherwise.

Meanwhile, ICE has already been removing the worst actors. Just last week a single flight returned more than 100 Haitian nationals, including men convicted of child molestation, armed carjacking, and drug trafficking, according to DHS and Fox News reporting. Those are not “asylum seekers.” Those are predators who should never have been here in the first place.

Springfield became a national flashpoint in 2024 when the sheer scale of the Haitian influx strained housing, schools, and hospitals. Local residents who raised alarms were smeared as bigots. Now the same voices demanding permanent status for people who entered under temporary protections want Americans to pretend the system is working.

It is not. TPS was never meant to become a multi-generational entitlement. Extending it year after year under Democratic administrations incentivized more illegal migration and eroded the distinction between legal temporary relief and permanent settlement.

Scripture is clear that God has set the bounds of the nations. “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.”

Acts 17:26. Borders are not hate. They are order. A government that refuses to enforce them fails its most basic duty.

Those who have other lawful pathways should pursue them. Those who do not should leave. The administration is offering money and a free flight for voluntary departure. That is more generous than most nations would offer. For those who refuse, ICE will do its job. The days of treating temporary status as a permanent right are ending. Closing time means exactly that.
