They slapped a Tea Party face on a left-wing operation and hoped no one would notice. Humans First bills itself as a grassroots conservative rebellion against data centers and artificial intelligence. The media eats it up. Axios, The Hill, and The Guardian all ran with the “conservative” label like it was gospel. It is not.
One year after President Trump rolled out his AI Action Plan to keep America first in the technology race, a network of Green Party activists, Democratic operatives, and effective altruist money is trying to kneecap the very infrastructure needed to win it. They call themselves Humans First. The paper trail says otherwise.
Townhall and Fox News dug into the records. Incorporation documents list staffers from the Center for AI Safety, a San Francisco nonprofit, as the group’s initial employees. That same outfit provided a startup loan. Early funding traces back to Open Philanthropy, the vehicle of Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, a major player in the progressive effective altruism world that has poured billions into left-of-center causes while hiring a few Republican lobbyists for cover.
Amy Kremer, the public face and Tea Party veteran, insists the group is now purely conservative. She says the left and right operate differently and that Humans First spun off cleanly. Maybe. But the July 18 protests told a different story.
Organizers included an Illinois Green Party chapter that supports abortion on demand, gun control, divesting from Israel, decriminalizing prostitution, impeaching Trump, and solidarity with Cuba. A transgender activist and Green Party-aligned congressional candidate helped run a protest outside Chicago and framed data centers as an ecological crisis. At one California event, protesters waved anti-ICE signs. Turnout was thin. Videos from California, Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina showed sparse crowds despite the “nationwide movement” hype.
This is not a conservative uprising. It is a classic infiltration play. The left cannot stop Trump’s AI agenda through Congress, so it borrows a familiar name, a MAGA-adjacent organizer, and local grievances over noise and power bills to peel off Republican support.
Data centers do bring real local pressures. Energy use, land, water. Legitimate questions exist. But the solution is American energy dominance and streamlined permitting, not handing the brakes to people who want America second.
Trump’s plan is straightforward. Cut red tape. Build the infrastructure. Keep the technology out of the hands of woke engineers who would bake bias into the systems that will shape everything from medicine to national defense.
The Innovation Council, which backs that agenda, put it plainly. Tylor Budowich said Humans First is “lying about the nature of their organization by masquerading as a conservative grassroots movement.”
Their campaign, he added, is built on deception and serves the interests of America’s adversaries.
China is not pausing its data center construction. Beijing is not debating whether AI might hurt someone’s feelings or raise a utility bill. While activists here wave signs about “ecological damage,” the Chinese Communist Party races ahead. Slowing America’s buildout does not put humans first. It puts Beijing first.
Scripture warns about this exact tactic. “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” Matthew 7:15.
The clothing here is the language of everyday Americans and Tea Party roots. The teeth are the same progressive network that has spent years trying to hobble American energy, manufacturing, and now the technology that will define the next century.
Real conservatives understand the difference between legitimate local concerns and a coordinated effort to divide the right. They also understand that American leadership in AI is not optional. It is a strategic necessity.
The same people who spent years calling conservatives conspiracy theorists now expect those same conservatives to trust a group whose founding paperwork and protest partners come straight from the left’s playbook.
The media will keep calling it conservative. That is their job. Ours is to notice the sheep’s clothing and refuse to follow the wolves. America’s AI future belongs to the people who actually want America to win, not to those who only borrow the label when it is useful.
